Recent Cases

R. v. M.

Firearm Possession

Client was charged with serious gun-related offences including possession of a firearm. Through negotiation with the Crown's office, we were able to demonstrate the client was in the wrong place at the wrong time. All five charges were marked as withdrawn and the client retains a clean criminal record.

R. v. S.

Drug Possession

The client was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance — heroin. After reviewing disclosure and intensive meetings with the Crown's office, the charges were withdrawn with counselling.

R. v. A.D.

Domestic Assault

Client was facing several domestic-related assault charges. After reviewing the disclosure and evidence, we were able to show the complainant had fabricated the charges. The client received a peace bond with no criminal record and without pleading guilty.

Past results do not guarantee future outcomes. Every case turns on its own facts; these examples are illustrative only and are not a promise about any particular matter.

Questions People Often Ask

Guruveer Sangha, criminal defence lawyer
Should I talk to the police?

You have the right to remain silent, and in most situations the safest step is to use it. You generally have to identify yourself, but you do not have to answer questions about an allegation. Politely say you want to speak with a lawyer first — then call. What you say early can shape the entire case.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. The first call is free and confidential. You can explain your situation and ask questions before you decide whether to retain a lawyer, with no obligation.

What happens at a bail hearing?

If the police don't release you, a bail hearing usually takes place within about 24 hours. The court decides whether you're released while your case continues and on what conditions — often with a surety. Because the first 24 hours carry so much weight, it helps to involve a lawyer as early as possible.

What happens at a first court appearance?

A first appearance is usually short and procedural. You are not asked to plead or to argue the case that day. It is typically used to confirm the charges, receive disclosure (the Crown's materials) and set the next date. Having a lawyer attend means the process is handled and explained to you.

Will I get a criminal record?

It depends on the charge and how the matter is resolved. Outcomes range widely — some matters are withdrawn or resolved without a finding of guilt, while others are not, and every case turns on its own facts. No lawyer can promise a particular result, but the goal is always to understand your options clearly before any decision is made.

How long will my case take?

It depends on the charge, the court, and whether the matter resolves early or proceeds to trial. Some matters are dealt with in a few appearances, while others take several months. I will explain the likely steps and keep you updated on timing as your case moves forward.

Do you offer help in Punjabi?

Yes. I consult and represent clients in Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ) as well as English, so you can explain your situation and understand your options in the language you're most comfortable with.
